About Us
Mystical Rose Herbals was founded in 1997 by Jean Pollock, Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP). Dedicated to “Achieving Health and Beauty Using Herbs and Elements from God’s Pharmacy”, Jean has had great success using natural medicines to this end.
Jean was brought up deep in the heart of the Berkshires, surrounded with woods and a bubbling brook from her infancy. She has always been fascinated with natural life; her father was a tree surgeon and the love of the outdoors was instilled at an early age. She married her husband, Patrick, in 1974 and is still in the process of raising the last of their ten children.
Since her first child was born, she has been devoted to providing her family with nourishing foods. From her earliest married years, she was focused on providing her family with foods produced in their own gardens or grown locally by farmer-friends. After dealing with a few childhood illnesses of her children, especially her two asthmatic sons, Jean began studying and using natural medicines for her family. She found that using natural medicines and chiropractors for her two asthmatic & allergic sons worked as well or better than allopathic medicines and had no side effects. Although the little boys both had serious asthma, there was never a need for an emergency room visit, all during their childhood, for asthma attacks. A trip to the chiropractor and utilizing the natural methods provided by “God’s Pharmacy” would ease the attacks and the children would return to normal breathing without the added stress and worries occasioned by a visit to a hospital.
Jean began studying herbology informally and when she was able, took formal classes in the study of herbology. She became a certified Holistic Health Practitioner with the American Board of Drugless Practitioners in 1999 and also holds a Certificate from Dr. Tieraona Lowdog’s Foundations in Herbal Medicine course from Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Jean has given numerous classes on the safe use and benefits of medicinal herbs throughout the years.
With the knowledge that food and herbs match the chemical makeup of the human body and are therefore wholly and easily assimilated by the body, she designed Berkshire Meadows Herbal Health Tea in order to supply her family with a natural & organic food-source of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Berkshire Meadows Tea is a natural outcome of the close-to-the-earth lifestyle the family has always striven for. This delicious combination of herbs is great tasting – it’s been taste-tested on many individuals and families, including Pollock’s own large family. Even finicky teenagers love this tea! Enjoyed iced in the summer or hot in the winter, Berkshire Meadows Tea has no caffeine and is made up of 100% organically grown or wild-harvested herbs, bursting with nutrition. Jean grows many of the herbs used in Berkshire Meadows Tea in her own herb gardens and also harvests many of them from nearby, pesticide-free woods and meadows. These herbs also contribute to the digestion of food and proper absorption of the nutrients in meals. The tea is a great comfort to those who are sick and has helped many people return to health who have been suffering from a nasty cold or flu. To help fight colds & flu’s this winter, make a pot in the morning, put it in a thermos and enjoy it all day long! Berkshire Meadows Tea was featured at the recent Berkshire Grown dinner in New York City at the James Beard Foundation this past September 16 by Brian Albger, Executive Chef of the Red Lion Inn. The Tea can be found at the Red Lion Inn Gift Shop, The Elm Street Market, Guido’s, The Berkshire Co-op, Rubiner’s, Riverbend Cafe Coffee Shop, Curves of Gt. Barrington, and Sidetracks in Stockbridge.
Well versed in the benefits and uses of herbal medicines, Jean is also aware of the dangers in synthetic products to both skin and body that are inherent in the topical application of synthetic beauty care products. Convinced that “you should not put anything on your skin that you would not eat”, she has been making and marketing “botanically correct” salves and skin care products that are made from all-natural sources for many years. Sold both locally and from her website, she offers a selection of skin products which are designed to protect, beautify, moisten, tone and soften your skin while botanically matching the chemical make up of the human body.
The blend of herbs used in the much-acclaimed “Maiden’s Glow” Herbal Face Cream forms a beautiful, hand-whipped cream, either rose or lavender scented, that is eagerly absorbed and readily used by the skin to moisturize and nourish the face, hands and body. As a result of the LOCALLY HARVESTED skin-specific herbs used in this product combined with the antioxidant-rich, organic olive oil, the skin is toned and fed when this Face and Body Cream is applied. Many ladies (and men too) claim that this cream has erased wrinkles, and made them look younger and healthier, imparting a certain “glow” to their skin. You can visit Jean (or a helper) at the Gt. Barrington Farmers’ Market in the summertime or at the Sheffield Indoor Market in November. These products are also available by ordering from this website.
Mrs. Pollock remains available for consultation by phone, for herb walks and offers private herb classes which include the identification, harvesting and storage of herbs as well as how to make herbal teas, salves and tinctures.
If you would like to call with a specific question, a short call is free, however, if the call goes over 15 minutes, rates are $40 per hour per consultation with a minimum charge of $20. Please note that Mrs. Pollock will not be able to discuss your specific prescription drugs with you or give medical advice. She may, however, suggest herbs that have helped people with specific problems which you may also be experiencing. Please e-mail to make an appointment.
